Deadly ride

School children sitting on the rooftop and hanging from the stairs of an overloaded bus in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) district. According to the residents of the district, such scenes are witnessed everyday with officials of the Traffic department and other law enforcement agencies turning blind eye towards it. “We apprised the senior functionaries of the department about the menace and sought stringent action against those involved in blatant traffic violations, but they turned deaf ears to our repeated pleas,” the residents said.
 The inhabitants of the district have urged the Inspector General of Police (Traffic) to direct the lower rung officials to take action against the drivers involved in overloading. (Pic Courtesy Citizen Journalist/Mubashir)
