Yawning gap in power purchase, revenue collection

Jammu, Mar 30: State Government has spent Rs 3383.0854 crore on power purchase from March 2011 to January 2012, while the total revenue collection during this period is just Rs 833.525 crore.
As per data provided by the State Government in the Upper House, there is a huge gap between expenditure incurred on purchase of power and the revenue earned by the government. This gap is met through the budgetary support from the government.
The data revealed that the government has paid Rs 2689.9217 crore as power purchase from Central Power Projects including Central Public Sector Undertakings, Unscheduled Interchange, and Reactive Energy. Besides this, the government has paid Rs 693.1637 as power purchase bill to the state sources including PDC, Gas Turbine, and Water Usage Charges including Baglihar.
Also total revenue earned by the department from March 2011 to January 2012 is Rs 833.525 crores (498.485 crores from Jammu Province and 335.040 crores from Kashmir Province
