Srinagar, Mar 5: The inhabitants of Lane number 7, Baghat-e-Shoor Green Colony, Soura have accused the Roads and Buildings department of leaving the road repairs in the area midway.
 The locals said that after repeated pleas highlighting the hardships faced by the natives due to dilapidated inner roads, the authorities started the repair work.
 “The contractor who was assigned the job dumped boulders on the roads few months back. However, the work was stopped for the reasons better known to those at the helm of affairs,” the locals told Greater Kashmir.
 They said that due to the presence of boulders on the roads, many motorcyclists and two wheeler riders have met with accidents. “There have been injuries to many persons in these mishaps,” they said, adding the people of the area especially the elderly and children face huge inconvenience to walk on the road.
 “The movement of people is adversely affected during the evening hours  when there’s every possibility of slipping down,” the residents added.
 “Senior officials of the concerned department should take immediate note of the stoppage of work and take stringent action against the concerned,” the locals said.
 The residents also demanded construction of a protection wall near the stream (Padshahi Kul) flowing through the area.
 “There have been incidents wherein children have drowned into it,” the residents said, adding that despite various reminders to the authorities, the officials had failed to do anything substantial in this regard.
 They said the wooden poles erected by the Power Development Department had started decaying. “We urged the functionaries of the PDD to erect cemented poles, but they didn’t pay heed to our pleas,” the locals added.
 The people sought the intervention of Divisional Commissioner, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon in this regard.
