Sagar-Veeri lock horns over City
AKSHAY AZAD
Jammu, Mar 5: The Legislative Assembly Monday witnessed uproarious scenes and two walkouts by the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what it termed the sluggish pace on Srinagar beautification project.
Amid pandemonium, the PDP and treasure bench members exchanged heated arguments, while Minister for Rural Development Ali Muhammad Sagar and Veeri accused each other of ignoring Srinagar City.
While Veeri accused NC regime of shelving the projects started during the regime of his party, Ali Muhammad Sagar hit back by alleging that PDP too have abandoned the projects started by the NC government.
Veeri said major initiatives taken during the previous PDP-Congress regime, particularly Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Package had been abandoned by the NC led government. He said for that matter even the initiatives taken during the tenure of the then Chief Minsiter Ghulam Nabi Azad haven’t been taken forward.
“Aap Logh Jataya Ho Kay Aap Nay Srinagar Ka Theka Lay Rakha Hai, Magar Suc h To Yeh Hai Kay Aap He isko Ko Barbaadh kar rahay Ho,” Veeri is understood to have told Sagar.
Veeri said sewage and drainage were critical components of the PM’s package but that since 2004 nothing fruitful has come to fore on this front.
Besides he said: “Even though some quarters had tried to give a notion that PDP did nothing for the City during its regime, the fact is that Mufti sahib took all major developmental initiatives like timely construction of Jehangir Chowk flyover, Lal Mandi footbridge, Jhelum and Eidgah beautification programs.”
“There has been no step forward on these fronts during the 3.5 years of the present regime,” he said.
