Rakesh’s ton guides PCDA to final
CGEWCC T20 CRICKET TOURNAMENT FINAL TODAY
Jammu, Mar 6: Unbeaten century from Rakesh Koul today guided Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA) XI to a narrow win over another star-studded side of Principal Account General (PAG) XI in the semifinals of Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) at MA Stadium, here.
Now, in the final, scheduled to be played tomorrow, PCDA XI shall take on first-timer in the competition, Customs and Central Excise XI.
In the second semifinal, played today, PCDA trounced PAG XI by five wickets on the second last delivery of the last 20th over. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, PAG XI set a target of 174 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Two former J&K Ranji captains, Ashwani Gupta and Sanjay Sharma were main contributors to the total with 83 (not out) and 53 runs respectively. From PCDA XI, Pardeep Bali took one wicket while Rakesh Koul bowled economical spell (4-0-17-0).
In reply, PCDA made a poor beginning when they lost star striker in Ranjit Bali at the early stages of their innings. However, Rakesh Koul provided the side needed fillip and playing a magnificent innings of unbeaten 104 runs off just 59 deliveries. Ajaz Ahmed contributed 22 runs. From PAG XI, Ashwani Gupta, Anoop Magotra, Sanjay Sharma as also Amarjit Singh and Anoop Kumar shared one wicket each.
For his match winning knock of a century, Rakesh was adjudged man of the match. Today’s match was officiated by Shashi Jamwal and PS Jamwal as umpires while BS Bhan and Sunil Chakoo were scorers.
Prominent among those present in today’s crucial semifinal were Ashok Chawla, Vinod Raina, Balbir Jamwal and Gulzar Singh.
