Remarks spark uproar in LA
AKSHAY AZAD
Jammu, Mar 6: Members of Legislative Assembly on Tuesday lodged a strong protest over the alleged inflammatory remarks by VHP president Parveen Togadia during a public rally in Rajouri district and the government’s failure to act against the right wing leader for attempting to “flare community sentiments”.
As soon as the House met this morning, independent MLA Engineer Abdul Rasheed raised the issue and was soon joined by more members - both from opposition and treasury benches.
Strongly criticizing the remarks of VHP leader, Rashid said that it was astounding to notice that Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been kept under house arrest for last two years, while people like Togadia were allowed to deliver hate speeches in the public.
Endorsing the issue raised by Rashid, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Javed Mustafa Mir also lashed at the government for ignoring the activities of Togadia.
Another PDP legislator Zulfikar Ali asked the government to tighten noose around such elements.
National Conference legislator Aijaz Jan, while condemning the remarks of Togadia, said that Poonch and Rajouri districts are known for age old communal harmony but the elements like VHP chief attempt to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the region.
