Srinagar, Mar 7: More than 300   passengers of Kargil region are stranded in Srinagar for the past 25 days.
A group of aggrieved passengers told Greater Kashmir that they are stuck in the Valley for the past 25 days due to non-plying of air sorties between Srinagar and Kargil. “We have been visiting the Airport everyday since February 10 but they turn us back by announcing that no sorties are available,” they said
According to them although three air sorties ply between the two destinations but not a single sortie plied during the past four weeks. “Everyday they say the weather is not clear,” said Raza Ahmad, a passenger.
Raza who was accompanied by other people threatened to travel on foot if arrangements were not made to airlift them. “We will be forced to travel Kargil through road via the deadly Zojila Pass. God forbid, if anything tragic happens to any one of us, administration will be responsible for it,” he said.
“Nobody from the divisional administration or the government visited us or inquired about our plight during all these days time,” said, Rehamtullah Khan, another resident of Kargil
When contacted, MLA Kargil and Minister for CAPD Qamar Ali Akhoon said that he had taken up the matter with Government of India and  the state government. “I am concerned about the stranded passengers,” he said.
The official on special duty in Divisional Commissioner’s office Amir Ali said “We were not able to airlift them due to bad weather conditions from past four weeks.  Now we have arranged a special flight to Kargil on March 8, to airlift the stranded passengers.”
