Rate hike

With setting in of tourist season in the valley, the rates  of eateries by the JKTDC have also been increased  without any rhyme or reason. These  rates were already exorbitant when compared to private restaurants. One of the so called posh restaurant of the corporation had to  bear the brunt of heavy fine  reportedly imposed by the health officer, SMC. Even if the rate revision was necessitated due to hike in essentials but it ought to have been done with the reasonable parameters 10 percent at the most.
The restaurants of JKTDC  particularly Nunkun at the Nehru Park and Zaika just outside the Chesmashi garden have not only doubled the rates of tea and other items but the quality and the quantity  too has been compromised and no replacement of old  crockery and cutlery is noticed. As a result, it presents gloomy picture of the Government owned corporation and the tourism department as a whole. Other restaurants in Botanical  and Nishat gardens are  stigma in the name of Tourism  corporation and could be at the most equated with the Rehras tea stalls. Either the corporation should better wind them up or give facelift to existing shed type small shops besides equipping them  with new crockery etc or else out source them. The rate hike is simply unjustified.
