Legendary singer Vijay Malla is no more

Jammu, May 9: Renowned Kashmiri singer, Vijay Malla passed away Wednesday after he suffered heart attack at his residence here in Sarwal area. He was 46 and is survived by wife, son and daughter.
A family member told Greater Kashmir that Malla suffered a massive heart attack at 4.30 pm and was immediately rushed to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu. But the doctors pronounced him as brought dead.
Malla, a legendary Kashmiri Singer was working as staff artist in Ministry of Broadcasting Song and Drama Division Jammu.
Vijay Malla had won many awards and he had participated in music concerts not only across the country but outside India as well.
He learnt classical vocal music from Prem Sangeet Niketan, Kashmir at the age of 10. He also learnt classical vocal under the guidance of Pt Brijkrishen Shair. He got training in ghazal singing from famous Ghazal singer of Kashmir, Pt Vishnupuran Dhar.
Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah expressed grief over the demise of Malla terming his death as a great loss to the artist fraternity and the society.
They conveyed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, United Music Art Association has expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the prominent singer. In a statement, president of the Association Aijaz Rah said that the demise of Malla has left a great void in the music and arts industry in the state.
