NASIR INAUGURATES JHELUM VIEW PARK

‘Old Zero Bridge to be thrown open for LMVs shortly’

Srinagar, May 9: Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Wednesday inaugurated the Jhelum View Park, near Aramwari, developed by Irrigation & Flood Control Department(I&FC).
 Chief Engineer, I&FC, Muhammad Muzaffar Lankar, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Shah and VC, LAWDA, Irfan Yasin, were also present on the occasion.
 Addressing the large gathering, the Minister highlighted pro-people initiatives taken by the Government.
 “During the last three years of coalition government landmark legislations like Public Services Guarantee Act and RTI Act had been passed. Watchdogs like State Information Commission and Vigilance Commission have been created to make administration more responsive,” he said.
 On the ongoing restoration work on Old Zero Bridge, the Minister stated that the work be completed in a timeframe manner and the bridge opened for light vehicular traffic.
 This, he said, will ease pressure on New Zero Bridge and help streamline traffic movement.
 Nasir said the government would develop more parks around Srinagar City and beautify the Jhelum embankments on priority.
 “We have already started Jhelum cruise to attract tourists towards water sports,” the Minister added.
 The Chief Engineer, in his address, ensured the people that the park will be equipped with benches, besides swings and slides will also be installed for children. He also said that Jhelum river will be regularly dredged and cleaned so that it is restored to its past glory.
