‘BCCI pumped ` 89 Cr in JK in five years’
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, May 10: While police and Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) have launched separate probes into the multi-crore scam , it has come to fore that Rs 89 crores were pumped by Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) in the state for the past five years.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that JKCA has received Rs 89 crore as subsidies from BCCI over the last five years for promotion of cricket activities in the state and the investigation of in-House panel of JKCA is enquiring on embezzlement of the large chunk of the said amount.
“Most of the amount received by the Association in five years has gone into kitty of these officials,” they said .
The in-House Committee comprising Arvinder Singh Micky, Ashwinder Koul, Sham Swaroop and Muhammad Ashraf Bhat was constituted by JKCA president Dr. Farooq Abdullah following the pressure from its members.
According to the sources, the JKCA internal panel has also approached Jammu and Kashmir Police to get photocopy of the documents seized by the police.
“But they have not provided photocopy of requisite documents so far,” they added.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Arvinder Singh Micky confirmed that police has not provided them photocopies of the documents.
“We have been permitted by Court to seek documents from police,” he added.
The scam came to the fore two months ago after it was found that the officials of the Association were running a number of parallel accounts in Khanyar and Air Cargo branches of JK Bank along with the original account. The funds for promotion of cricket were diverted to the “bogus” accounts and were subsequently siphoned off by the officials.
Following the widespread embarrassment, Goni lodged an FIR in police station Ram Munshi Bagh and named Ehsan Mirza of Nageen and Saleem Khan as the accused.
