JK bags ‘best emerging destination award’

Srinagar, May 10: Jammu and Kashmir has bagged “the best emerging destination award” from internationally acclaimed travel magazine The Lonely Planet. Director Tourism Kashmir, Farooq A Shah said the efforts to promote the state as an ideal destination for all kinds of tourism products and services by the department “have begun to show results.” He said the coveted award “is the recognition of our efforts which the department is continuously making with other stakeholders in the tourism industry particularly the private sector tour and travel bodies.” The award was given to the Tourism Minster Nawang Rigzin Jora and MoS Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani in presence of commissioner secretary Tourism Atal Dulloo and Joint Director Tourism Asif Khan in Mumbai.
Shah while commenting on the award called for additional flights and train transport facility to Kashmir so that more and more tourists visit the state.
