Police constable dies mysteriously

Jammu, May 10: Mystery shrouded the death of a police constable whose bullet ridden body was found in the park along Ranveer Canal near Pawan Ice Cream, in Bakshi Nagar area, sources said.
While preliminary investigation suggested it to be a case of suicide, the family members feared that the cop might have been killed.
Sources said that some morning walkers today spotted a body of uniformed police personal with bullet injuries on his head, while the service rifle AK-47 was also laying near the body. They informed the police, which shifted the body to Government Medical College and hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Jammu and Kashmir police constable Rakesh Kumar (30) son of Darshan Lal resident of Bakshi Nagar. He was posted as Personal Security officer of Peoples Democratic Party leader Depender Kour (mother of Amandeep Singh, who was killed few years back).
Family members of the deceased informed that he left the house last evening immediately after he returned from the duty. “He was not wearing his uniform and went somewhere along with his service rifle” they said, adding that he didn’t return back till morning and it was only the police informed them about his death.
They termed the death as murder and demanded investigation of the case.
However police post incharge RS Rana said that the preliminary investigations suggested it as a case of suicide but the reasons behind death would only be ascertained after autopsy report.
