Announcement on BC elections hailed

Jammu, May 12: Asserting that empowerment of the people through strong panchayats was one of the commitments of the party, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference has hailed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for announcing the elections to the Block Panchayat Councils.
 Interacting with a deputation of party workers from various parts of the region, Member Legislative Assembly and spokesperson Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Sajad Ahmed Kichloo said that strong panchayats were imperative for ensuring development of the far flung areas as per the need of the local population.
 “The state government deserves kudos for its initiatives in this regard”, he said adding, “The government has already laid a strong foundation of local governance by holding panchayat elections and now with holding of Block Council elections by June the process will move to the next step”.
 He also expressed gratitude to the CM for announcing Rs 11.60 crores from the Planning Department for Panchayat Fund, which will be utilized for making panchayat offices functional.
