Amar Singh Club members discuss heritage conservation

Srinagar, May 15: Amar Singh Club Tuesday held a brainstorming session here in a bid to generate new ideas regarding heritage conservation.
 Government officers, engineers, valley businessmen and other senior members of the Club attended the session. They deliberated on the conservation of heritage sites in Srinagar and outskirts.
 Convener, INTACH, JK Chapter, M Saleem Beg said planners must show their concern towards the conservation of these sites. “Strong polices need to be devised more such brainstorming sessions should be held,” he said.
 “Since ‘50s the city entered into a new phase of urbanization. This challenged the settlement pattern,” he said.
 Members said people in general and government in particular should know that Srinagar was rich in culture and its sites and monuments ought to be restored and conserved. “Active participation is also the need of the hour and we have to make people feel what it is to throw garbage in Jehlum and other water bodies,” said a member.
 Secretary Amar Singh Club M Anwar Mir said the function was to deliberate role of civil society in conservation and protection of heritage character of Srinagar City. “The Club unanimously has decided to engage civil society members in issues concerning the society at large. A series of discourses would be held from time to time for conservation and protection,” he said.
 Asked if they were planning to do some ground work, the secretary said the Club would mainly brainstorm ideas and see them transformed into reality in the days ahead.
