Army organise cricket tournament at Panzgam
Srinagar, May 15: With the idea of promoting sports and spirit of competition amongst the youth of the remote areas, an Inter-tehsil cricket competition was organized at Panzgam by 18 Grenadiers of Hajipir Brigade in collaboration with Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, J&K from May 12 to 14.
Youth from various Tehsils of Kupwara District participated in the tournament. The participating teams for Inter Tehsil Cricket Competition were from Kalaruch, Kupwara, Patha Hiri, Trahagam Chowkibal and Panzgam.
Kupwara team won the tournament which was based on knockout basis. Brigadier Ram Niwas, Commander Hajipir Brigade, presented prizes to the winning team.
Speaking on the occasion, Commander Hajipir Brigade said that these types of competition will surely help in promoting the spirit of brotherhood among the youth. He also said that participation is more important than winning as in all sports events there can be only one winner. Brigadier Niwas assured people of help from army side.
The locals appreciated this initiative taken by Army to reach out to the people in far flung areas where sports facilities are limited.
