Hafta Shouda begins

Srinagar, May 16: The recitation of Quran and prayer for Martyrs marked the onset of Hafta Shouda to mark the 22nd martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-i-Millat Moulvi Muhammad Farooq at Mirwaiz Manzil here, a Hurriyat (M) spokesman said. 
      He said on the occasion, a large number of people and religious leaders participated in the gathering. Participants offered special prayers for all the Martyrs, including Shaheed-e-Millat. Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also participated and recited Quran on the occasion.
      Similar event was held at Hurriyat headquarters at Rajbagh. Hundreds of participants recited and prayed for the Martyrs. Apart from this, students in more than two dozen Madrasas spread across the Valley recited Quran and offered special prayers for Martyrs, he said. A Quranic recitation gathering was held at Sadar Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
      Students from Dar-ul-uloom Kupwara, Doodhwan, Dar-ul-uloom Braripora Handwara, Bab-ul-ilm Budgam, Dar-ul-uloom Qasmia Lal Bazaar Srinagar, Islamia Oriental College, Rajouri Kadal Srinagar, Madrassa Talim-ul-Quran Wangundah Baramulla, Markazi Dar-ul-uloom Dawoodia Kolipora Khanyar, Hanfia Arabi College Noorbagh Srinagar, Dar-ul-uloom Furqania Nowhsera, Dar-ul-uloom Alnooria, Noorabad Durnoo Lolab, Madrassa Hia-ul-uloom Rajouri, Alhai Uloom Imam-e-Ghazzali institute Srinagar, Dar-ul-uloom Naqashbandia Srinagar, Madrassa nagbal ganderbal, Madrassa Dedi koot Kupwara, and madrassa Sout-ul-quran Watergam, Rafiabad and many others participated in Quran Khawani. 
      Qari Shahnawaz Ahmad from Markazi Dar-ul-uloom Kupwara bagged the first position for the best recitation of Quran. He was followed by Qari Javed Ahmad Malik of Al-Noor institute Tangmarg for second and Zahid Ahmad of Islamia and Natal college Rajorui Kadal for third position. The fourth position was awarded to Qari Ali Sufi.
      Professor Kamili while paying tributes to Shaheed-e-Millat, also thanked the students for reciting Quran. 
            The winners were decided by Syed Ahmad Syed Naqshbandi, Mufti Mubarak, Moulana Peer Ali who were the judges on the occasion. The overall gathering was supervised by M S Rehman
