RIVER TRANSPORT IS IDEAL FOR CITY
WE THE Srinagarites
THIS is with reference to news item about Jhulem transport or water transport as an alternative means of transportation in Srinagar City. It is not only a great idea but solution to number of problems like frequent traffic jams, pollution and wastage of time and energy.
This is the best idea which has been put in place by the administration with the help of some private agencies as part of Rapid Transport System (R T S) in the City.
It not only provides an environment friendly transport but a link with our age old heritage and culture also.
Besides it will ease pressures on our roads, which are undersized as compared to the population needs.
Fifty percent infrastructure is already in place in the shape of river bank Ghats with beautiful ornamental Devri stone work connecting major Mohallas, main markets and major religious places with the river. Only some minor repairs would be required.
This proposal needs to be given a final shape to achieve much needed alternative transportation in the City as proposed years back by Hakeem Ifftikar Ahmed, now chief town planner.
It will besides requirements and need, fulfill the purpose of short excursions and sightseeing for locals and tourists alike.
The tourists will definitely like this type of ride which will provide them a historic visit of Shaher-e-Khaas.
