'Tourism dev high on govt agenda'

Srinagar, May 22: Asserting that tourism promotion was high on government agenda, Minister for Tourism and Culture Nawang Rigzin Jora today said the cooperation of Tour and Travel Operators is pivotal to make the industry more vibrant and commercially viable.
This, according to an official statement, was stated by the Minister during a meeting with the representatives of Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation (KHAROF) here today to discuss various issues related to hotel industry.
Minister of state for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani was also present on the occasion.
Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture, Atal Duloo, Director Tourism Kashmir, Talat Pervaz, President KHAROF, Faiz Bakashi, Senior Vice President KHAROF Manzoor Ahmed, General Secretary KHAROF, Manzoor and other members of the federation attended the meeting.
Jora said government is making strenuous efforts to upgrade infrastructural facilities at tourist’s destinations for connivance of the visitors.
He said that new tourism spots with thrust on promoting adventure, pilgrim and heritage tourism are being brought on tourism map of the State.
He hoped this year the State would witness a big boom of domestic and foreign tourists and asking Tourism Department and KHAROF to be ready to provide them better hospitality and boarding lodging facilities at affordable rates.
The Minister said that Tour and Travel Operators play a pivotal role in developing socio-economic condition of the State and called upon them to provide better hospitality facilities to the tourists and also called for keeping cleanliness in and around the hotels.
