4 chicken-pox cases detected
Srinagar, May 22: Four suspected cases of chicken-pox were reported on Tuesday from a private school at Humhama here prompting the Health Department to send a team to assess the situation.
“We had four suspected cases of chicken-pox among our students. Our medical officer confirmed the same. We have informed the parents of these children and advised them to seek a second opinion,” Joyce Koul, Headmistress of Kashmir Valley School said. Koul said the students showing symptoms of the contagious disease have been isolated and sent back home.
Director Health Services Kashmir, Saleem-ur-Rehman, said only three children were infected and it was not that serious. “Just three students are infected by the chicken-pox and they have been singled out. There is no worry as they are under observation. Their tests are being carried out and it is not serious,” he said.
Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma has deputed a team to the school for a full assessment of the situation.
