Govt sabotaged May 21 program: Hurriyat (M)
Srinagar, May 22: The Hurriyat Conference (M) on Tuesday accused the government of sabotaging the joint program announced by the amalgam and Awami Majlis-e-Amal to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq (RA) and to pay tributes to thousands of martyrs on June 21 at Eidgah here.
“The government was so frustrated that they placed conglomerate chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest. They also detained Hurriyat and Awami Majlis-e-Amal activists and workers. Besides, police raided Hurriyat headquarters at Mirwaiz Manzil and ransacked the office,” said a spokesman of the amalgam in a statement today.
Condemning the police action, the spokesman said, “Mirwaiz Manzil is Kashmir’s honor as it has played a significant role in Kashmir’s political, religious and social affairs. Apart from this, it has historical importance associated with it.”
Castigating the government, the spokesman claimed that the public sentiments had been immensely hurt due to government action.
