“To provide much needed thrust to the food sector and  to have a better outreach and more flexibility to suit local needs, the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries launched a new centrally sponsored scheme 'National Mission on Food Processing' in cooperation with the State Governments during 2012-13,” he said.
The state level Committee today held detailed deliberations on wide ranging issues connected with formulating a proper and comprehensive course of action for the successful implementation of this scheme, an official statement said.
To create road map for Food processing sector in the state with a vision document it was proposed to engage a professional Project Management Agency by calling bids at national Level.
The J&K SIDCO which has been nominated as the nodal agency for the scheme was asked to fast track the bidding process.
Under the scheme centre will be providing assistance to the states for technological up gradation, skill development, and promotional activities and setting up of non-horticultural cold storages facilities.
It will also assist states in creation of Infrastructure facilities for running degree, diploma and certificate courses in food processing technology etc.
