Police foil Ulema meet: Hurriyat (G)
Geelani To Address Press Conference Today
Srinagar, May 24: Police on Thursday prevented Ulema from different schools of thought to attend a meeting called by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his Hyderpora residence here, a spokesman of the amalgam said.
“Geelani had convened a closed door meeting of 20 selected Ulema as a follow-up of May 5, seminar to take some important decisions to foil the conspiracies aimed at dividing the Muslims in the name of Maslaks. But the police prevented the Ulema from attending the meeting. Some of the Ulema were stopped by the police at Airport Road while others were telephonically informed that the government had imposed ban on it ( today’s meeting),” a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said. “The Ulema who were scheduled to attend the meeting included Amir Jama’at –i-Islami Sheikh Muhammad Hassan, Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees president Moulana Ghulam Rasool Malik, Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami of Caravan-i-Islami, Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi of Darul Uloom Raheemiya, Moulana Syed-ur-Rehman Shams of Anjuman Nasrat-ul-Islam, Abdul Rashid Dawoodi of Saut-ul-Awliya, Moulana Qazi Yasir of Umat-i-Islami, Moulana Ghulam Ali Gulzar of Tanzeem-ul-Makatib, Moulana Noor Muhammad Trali, Khursheed Ahmad Kanoongo of Anjuman Himait-ul- Islam, Moulana Mufti Zia-ud-Din Geelani, Moulana Altaf Hussain Nadvi, Moulana Muhammad Amin, Moulana Bilal Ahmad Kirmani, Moulana Qari Danish, Moulana Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Naqeeb, Dr Yousuf-ul-Umar, Moulana Bashir Ahmad Qami, Moulana Hafiz-ur-Rehman and Moulana Mufti Aijaz.
He said Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani would address a press conference on May 25, Friday, at 11 a.m. at his Hyderpora residence here to put forth amalgam’s stand on important issues and apprise the people about the latest political situation.
