Stop overcharging
This refers to the overcharging by auto drivers that is causing a lot of trouble to the commuters. The solution provided by the administration is not a feasible one. Filing a complaint with police is a long process and most of the commuters using autos in our city are either in a hurry to reach somewhere, or patients who want to commute from home to hospital and back. Expecting them to file complaints with police is asking too much from them. Administration should install digital meters in all autos. Government and the concerned department can help get these meters at the subsidized rates and also assist auto owners to get them installed. It’s difficult to temper with digital meters, and even if tempered with, it can be easily found. Also come up with prepaid auto counters at the busy places like bus stands, hospitals, colleges, offices etc. Autos should be registered with these stands and allowed to pick up commuters only from these stands. That would also help the government to keep a tab on the haphazard parking of these autos on the city roads. Third and important step would be to have a common complaint number. Transport department with the help of traffic police can set up a complaint number wherein users can call and register their complaints against the errant auto drivers. It would be easy for commuters to lodge complaints and easier for authorities to fix issues. The concerned department should look into these issues.
