Mirwaiz leads protest march against raid

ZAHID MAQBOOL

Srinagar May 25:  Chairman of Huriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday led a huge procession from Jamia Masjid to Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal to protest against the raid and desecration of religious books at Mirwaiz Manzil earlier this week.
“People have emotional bond with Mirwaiz Manzil. We cannot tolerate the desecration of religious books. Our workers were arrested. On one hand they claim that they will resolve Kashmir issue, but on the other hand they resort to barbarism,” Mirwaiz said while addressing a gathering at Rajouri Kadal in old city here.
Mirwaiz said that they would not be cowed down by these tactics. “We have been fighting from 1931. They disrupted our programme but we will launch a new programme,” he added.
While calling for unification, Mirwaiz said, “We have to be united. We don’t have to allow divisive forces to be successful.” Terming the reports, recommendations of committees appointed by New Delhi as a ‘ploy to delay’ the resolution of Kashmir issue, he said, “We will readily participate in  the meaningful dialogue for the resolution of Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan but  we  will not become a part of any such process which is aimed at dividing us.”
Lambasting mainstream politicians, Mirwaiz said that they could not even amend Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for two years. “Despite that they talk about resolving the Kashmir issue. I challenge them to give up security and come out in open,” he added.
