Srinagar, May 26: Three years after a Sopore man was brutally murdered in Punjab over a marital discord, his family still awaits justice.
Ishfaq Yusuf, 34, a model-turned aspiring pilot was killed allegedly by his in-laws at Fatehgarg-Churian village in Punjab where he was fighting a case against his wife Rupinder Kaur for custody of his son.
According to FIR registered by Punjab police, he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by his farther in law, brother and others. Dejected by denial of justice, his family is demanding that culprits be brought to book. “Our lives have been ruined by this incident. We want justice and I appeal to Punjab Chief minister to intervene and deliver justice to us, '' Roshan Ara, mother of late Ishfaq, told Greater Kashmir on Saturday.
Unable to bear the shock, her husband Muhammad Yusuf turned insane for two years. Since the day Yusuf recovered he has been traveling all along to Punjab to fight the case but every time justice has eluded him.
A few weeks back, he has moved a court in Chandigarh. His younger son, Basharat, meanwhile, has turned to social media seeking campaigns on the lines of Jessica LaL and Priyadharshani Mattoo cases.
“I will fight the case till I live. I want justice for my son and will leave no stone unturned” Yusuf said.
Ishfaq and Rupinder, according to family got married in Pune against the wishes of their parents. “The marriage worked well for nearly 10 years and the couple had a son, but three years ago, the marriage broke. An embittered fight to secure the custody of the child in courts aggravated the matters and led to killing of Ishfaq in December 2009,” family members said.
