Geelani to inaugurate Facebook campaign for Dr Qasim’s release

Srinagar, May 26: The chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) is scheduled to formally inaugurate Facebook campaign on May 28, Monday, at 11.30 a.m. to press for the demand for the release of incarcerated amalgam leader and Muslim League Chairman Dr Muhammad Qasim.
“The Kashmiri students have already started a Facebook campaign on a large scale to demand the release of Dr Qasim who is serving detention for the past 20 years. The objective of the campaign is to highlight the continued detention of Dr Qasim and garner support from international community for his release. The Hurriyat chairman is also becoming a part of this campaign. For this purpose he is formally inaugurating the campaign on Monday,” said the Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar in a statement.
“Dr Qasim has completed his detention term and now there is no constitutional or legal justification to prolong it any more. He is  being made the target of political reprisal and denied release for his political ideology. This is a serious human rights violation. The state government is playing a criminal role vis-à-vis his case,” said Akbar, appealing to the functionaries of Amnesty International, Asia Watch and International Red Cross to take serious note of the continued detention of Dr Qasim and exert pressure on New Delhi to release him immediately.
