‘Expedite investigation into Asra’s murder case’
Kupwara, May 28: The family and relatives of 6-year-old girl, Asra Shafi have appealed to the newly appointed District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Sarmad Hafeez and Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Muhammad Irshad to speed up the investigations into her murder.
Throat slit body of 6-year-old girl Asra Shafi, a class Ist student, daughter of Muhammad Shafi Malik, was found outside the gate of Middle school in Tikker few yards away from her home on March 27, 2011.
“We appeal to the DDC Kupwara and SP Kupwara to personally look into the matter so that the investigation process is expedited and culprits are brought to the book” the parents told Greater Kashmir.
“A year has passed and there hasn’t been any headway in the sensational murder case although police had assured us of cracking the case immediately,” said Ghulam Nabi Malik, Sarpanch of the village.
According to the residents, the murder had sent shivers down the spine of Kupwara residents. “Police has completely failed to fulfill its promise of bringing the culprits to book immediately.”
“Our children continue to feel insecure as the perpetuators of the crime have yet to be arrested,” said a resident.
Father of slain minor girl, Muhammad Shafi Malik said, “I am not able to understand the motive behind the barbaric murder of my daughter. The incident shocked all and parents who are now hesitant to leave their children alone."
“My daughter was innocent. I only want to know why she was murdered brutally. How unfortunate I am that I had to see her coffin instead of seeing her growing up,” Asra’s mother Shafiqa Begum told Greater Kashmir.
