Locals compel SMC to demolish illegal structure overnight
HALLA BOL WORKS IN KARAN NAGAR
Srinagar, May 28: The residents of Karan Nagar remained so hell bent to get an upcoming illegal structure demolished that they didn’t stop phoning Srinagar Municipal Commissioner(SMC), Dr GN Qasba till he made it to the spot Sunday evening.
Official sources said the SMC Commissioner got so many phone calls that the construction was going on at full swing Sunday, that he couldn’t miss to personally visit the spot where he found the complaints true.
The concerned Ward Officer was placed under suspension within hours while Chief Khilafwarzi Officer Aijaz Ahmed was directed to get the structure razed to ground by Monday morning.
“We demolished the structure soon after the sunrise…. This must have been the earliest ever demolition to have taken place so early in the morning,” Aijaz told Greater Kashmir confirming that the Ward Officer has been placed under suspension.
“Even though the offender had applied for building permission but the same was yet to be approved,” Aijaz said.
Asked how the structure had come up, the official agreed that it must have come up in the past three days of strike by government employees.
