Foundation stone to be laid in August: Soz

CONSTRUCTION OF ZOJILA TUNNEL

Srinagar, May 2: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Professor Saifuddin Soz on Wednesday claimed that foundation stone for the construction of Zojila tunnel would be laid on August this year and it would be inaugurated anytime next year.
“I thank Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, C P Joshi, and his colleagues for responding favorably to my demand to start construction of Zojila tunnel at the earliest and for sending me the minutes of the meeting that was held in New Delhi on March 28 on my initiative in connection with the proposed construction of the tunnel,” Soz said in statement.
“The Minister and his colleagues responded very favorably to my strong plea that work on the Zojila tunnel must start immediately so that a strong message is given to the concerned quarters that this matter was being pursued vigorously. They had also responded positively that apart from bringing relief to the people of the entire Ladakh region, especially the people of Kargil, the construction of Zojila Tunnel is a project of national strategic importance,” he added.
The Ministry is now vigorously firming up enormous funding for constructing of Zojila Tunnel. “As per the Minutes received by me the foundation laying ceremony of Z-Morh tunnel would be performed in August 2012, while it would be inaugurated anytime next year. The Ministry has, however charted out action points and importance is being attached to this prestigious project,” Soz said. “On my part I have kept Rahul Gandhi fully informed on the developments, who had taken keen interest in the matter.”
