Manasbal Lake

This is with reference to the article published in Greater Kashmir on 30th of April-2012 regarding Manasbal Lake. The observation made by Sh. Hilal Ahmad Malla is not based on facts. He writes that the floor tiles of foot path leading to Manasbal lake are made by Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority last year have cracked. Footpath/Walkway around Manasbal lake periphery has been constructed in 2007. Unfortunately during the period of unrest the stone pelters damaged a portion of tiled path of the walkway along with the illumination and a foot bridge. The Development Authority had already invited the tenders for the restoration of damaged works. We are hopeful the restoration work shall be completed within the month of May-2012.
Authority has contributed a lot towards the conservation of the lake by way of removal of 100% encroachment, demarcation of the lake, restoration of springs around the lake, Dredging of Manasbal lake, closure of stones/lime quarries within the vicinity of Manasbal lake . By adopting such measures a new lease of life has been given to the lake which was shrinking day by day.
