On Romana’s 3rd death anniversary, family appeals for speedy trial
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, May 2: It was on May 3, 2009 that Romana Javed’s parents saw her the last time when she left for tuitions because the same evening her dead body returned home. The 17-year-old was crushed to death by two car borne eve-teasers in Barzulla area.
Though the police had nabbed the duo accused in less than 24-hours of the murder, her family says, the case should be given a speedy trial.
The family said they have full faith in the Court of law. “But what we want is speedy trial the way it happened with many other cases of women rights in India,” said her father Javed Shabnum.
Referring to the reopening of old cases like Jessica Lal murder, a bar tender killed around two decades and the Ruchica incident, Javed said: “When victimized female folk elsewhere in India can get special attention of media and government, what prevents them from taking same steps in our daughter’s case?”
