Rawalpindi, May 2: A Kashmiri woman, Raja Begum, who traveled to Pakistan a couple of months back to attend wedding ceremony of her granddaughter, passed away on Tuesday night due to cardiac arrest.
Khalid Baba the son in-law of the deceased woman told Greater Kashmir that on late night on Tuesday his mother in law (Raja Begum) complained about soreness and pain around her chest. “All of sudden she felt sort of asphyxiation and pain on left side of her chest”, he said. “On seeing her condition we rushed her to Holy Family Hospital for treatment,” Baba said. “Doctors at the hospital tried their level best to save her life but in vain.”
Regarding her burial Khalid said, “We are in the process to make final arrangements to send the body back to Srinagar. The procedure that included the registration of death with the Consulate, Death Certificate, Embalming Certificate, police report and passport details is too cumbersome that it will take us at least 2 to 4 days”, he added.
After completing the whole process he said that they would be able to transport the body via Wagha border (Lahore).
“We had also requested the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad for necessary aid and support for the transportation of the body via Muzaffarabad just on the humanitarian grounds but the concerned authorities at the embassy pleaded that it was not possible under the given circumstances”, he said.
Khalid said that he had also contacted some government officials in Muzaffarabad in this regard but they said that there was no procedure or any practice in place in handling such cases.
Hailing from Rawlpora, Srinagar, Raja Begum, 84, bearing Indian passport number J-3909568 traveled to Pakistan on January 25, 2012 to attend wedding of one of her granddaughters, presently settled in Rawalpindi.
Pertinently, her two daughters Nasreen Khalid and Nuzhat Tahir are married to Pakistan nationals whose forefathers had migrated from Sopore to Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) in 1947.
