Under-trial woman dies in Poonch hospital

ISHRAT BHAT

Poonch, May 2: A woman detainee died while giving delivery in district hospital Poonch last night.
Reports said Zaina Bibi wife of Muhammad Sharief of Salwa village, was shifted to district hospital Poonch after she developed labour pain.
Official sources said the woman developed labour pain in the jail last evening but she was not shifted to hospital on time.
“She was brought to the hospital late last night and gave birth to a dead baby. She died two hours after the delivery,” they said.
They said Zaina was suffering from high blood pressure and was anemic. “We provided special care to her. Unfortunately she died along with the new born,” Jail Superintendent, Bhushan Lal Bali told Greater Kashmir.
He said after postmortem, the bodies have been handed over to the family members. “Zaina’s husband and brother-in-law are also lodged in the jail and both have been permitted to participate in the last rites by a local court here”, he added.
Zaina along with her husband and brother-in-law were arrested in November 2011 for their alleged role in a murder case. They were presently undergoing judicial custody.
