1st Peoples’ Cricket Tourney Concludes
Srinagar, May 30: Peoples’ cricket tournament organized by Peoples’ Conference concluded at Government Higher Secondary School, Zadibal, here on Wednesday.
The final was played between JNI Zadibal and YFC Zoonimar in which JNI Zadibal emerged victorious after a spectacular display of batting while chasing the target set by YFC. In the event 32 teams from all over Srinagar participated.
The final was attended by scores of people and supporters of both JNI and YFC teams. Peoples’ Conference had organized the first peoples’ cricket tournament under the supervision of PC district secretary Muhammad Ashraf Dar. The prize distribution for the tournament and the final match was attended by PC District President Junaid Azim Mattu, PC Legal Advisor Syed Faisal Qadri and PC Leader from Zadibal, Syed Owais Qadri along with senior party workers and activists from Zadibal.
The chief guest, Junaid Azim Mattu while speaking on the occasion, lauded the effort of PC’s Zadibal block, for organizing a successful cricket tournament that saw enthusiastic participation at all levels in the league.
Mattu said that successive governments in the State had embezzled enormous amounts of money meant for promoting sports activities in the State and the JKCA scam was just a tip of the ice-berg as a lot many skeletons lie in JKCA’s politically manipulated closets. Wondering why Dr. Farooq Abdullah was the only competent individual to head JKCA since close to two decades, Mattu said that it was a matter of shame for JKCA and its patrons that they had failed to put a single Kashmiri player on the national cricket circuit till now. Young players from our State need to encouraged, coached and facilitated as much as possible for them to compete at national and international levels but this dream has been shattered because of NC and PDP’s incompetence, corruption and lack of vision till now.
