4 killed in Mumbai bakery cylinder blasts
Mumbai, May 30: Four people, including two women, were Wednesday killed and 28 others injured in a fire and multiple blasts of cooking gas cylinders in a bakery in a Mumbai suburb, an official said.
The fire broke out in Trombay at a bakery near Cheetah Camp area in north-east Mumbai, an official from the municipal disaster management cell said.
The fire broke out at around 1:45 p.m. after a cylinder burst in the bakery, triggering blasts of several other cylinders. A few residences nearby also caught fire. Four people were killed and 28 others were injured in the incident, the official said.
Two women, who were killed on the spot, were identified as Sayeeda Shaikh and Mallika. The injured were taken to Sion and Shatabdi hospitals. Two others -- Attaulla Shaikh and Muhammed Afzal Shah -- succumbed to burn injuries at Sion Hospital.
Of the 28 injured, six were reportedly in critical condition with over 80 percent burns while the other 22 were stable, doctors said. However, they have also suffered as much as 60-70 percent burns.
A portion of the bakery collapsed following the blasts. People rushed to the spot to douse the blaze even as three fire tenders tried to bring the fire under control.
