Srinagar, May 3: Spilling the beans over the funding of Madrasas in the State, Jammu and Kashmir Karwani-Islami has accused the School Education Department of drawing money in the name of non-existing religious schools and seminaries.
 Addressing a press conference, Chairman Karwani-Islami Ghulam Rasool Hami said the organization’s legal advisor Mudasir Naqashbandi had filed an RTI in the School Education Department to ascertain the recipients of the funding for Madrasas.
 “After two months, the department has finally provided us the documents which reveal that they have created fake bank accounts and fraudulently associated them with our organization,” Hami said.
 Hami said the organization had asked the Deputy Commissioner Budgam to initiate a probe in the matter through a letter no KI-42-2012 dated April 18, 2012.
 “It is requested that some Madrasas have been shown under the name of Karwani- Islami J&K in the RTI reply. We as such request that payment of those Madrasas affiliated with Karwani Islami J&K may kindly be stopped. The name of those Madrasas/Darul-Ulooms are Darul–Uloom Choon Budgam, Darul-Uloom Nunar Budgam , Karwani Islami Darsgah Qazi Bagh, Karwani Islami Darsgah Waggar, Taleemul Quarn Ichgam, Darul-Uloom Budgam and other affiliated Darsgahs/Darul-ulooms with our organization,” the letter states.  
 “It has also come to our notice that some fake account numbers have been made by some persons to grab this money,” the letter further states. 
 Without directly naming anyone for the fraud, Hami said, “some people from Delhi to Srinagar are using different tactics to create doubts and differences among the leadership.”
 “We have never accepted money from the Central Government. The State Government has provided us contradictory lists under RTI. In reply to a RTI filed by Muhammad Sidique Paswal, the Central Government has claimed that funding is provided to 372 Madrasas. Ironically, many Madrasas have been shown associated with our organization which doesn’t exist,” Hami said.
 Pertinently following a story by Greater Kashmir, the Director School Education Kashmir had ordered an inquiry in December last year to ascertain the wrongdoings in the Madrasa funding. It had also constituted committees to probe the matter. However, the reports of these committees have not been made public yet.
 On allegations by the Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that some government officials are fuelling sectarian divide in the Valley, Hami said, “I have no testimony against anyone. We are trying to ascertain the facts.”
 “Delhi based media is creating a sense of divide in the society. It is done through a well planned conspiracy to give our organization an anti-movement color. We have always maintained that Kashmir is a disputed issue. Although our organization is religious but that does not mean we will allow anyone to use the sacrifices of Kashmiris for petty interests,” Hami added.
