Take decision in week’s time: HC to Passport Officer
PASSPORT MATTER
GK COURT CORRESPONDENT
Srinagar, May 3: The State High Court has asked the Regional Passport Officer Srinagar to take a decision on issuing passports to two highly educated youths who intend to go outside of the country in connection with some important issues.
“The verification agency is directed to furnish detailed report containing grounds, reasons to Regional Passport office Srinagar within one week and after the receipt of the report, the RPO would take a decision on the issue within one week in accordance with passport Act 1967,” the court held.
A bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court passed the directions on two petitions filed by Mir Zubair Rashid of Mirza Bagh Hazratbal and Fayaz Ahmad Wani seeking directions for issuance of the travel documents.
The petitioners through their counsel, Mir Shafaqat Hussain pleaded before the court that they have been struggling to get the travel documents for a long time.
The court observed that Passport Office is a creation of passport Act 1997 and once application is filed for issuance of passport, the office is bound to accord consideration within reasonable period and take decision for issuance of the passport.
Passing directions on other two petitions filed by two students, Muhammad Zuhaib Ronga and Muhammad Manan Ronga, the court held that prima facie there is non compliance of earlier court orders. “Before framing rule, one more opportunity is given to passport officer to comply with the court order and submit compliance report,” the court said.
