Nallah Ningli
Nature has bestowed Kashmir with lush green forests, open meadows, snow-caped mountains and streams. One such gift from nature to the people of north Kashmir is Nallah Ningli, (Ningil) in Kashmiri, has its origin in the famous spring (Allapatri Naag) located in Affarwat mountains at Khilanmarg. Nala Ningal, as the name signifies, is a Nallah (A Kashmiri term far fast moving streams running across pebbles and making some noise in the process), and not a lake. The picturesque villages like Wagoora and Kalantara are situated on its right bank down stream. The stream continues down into the valley and joins the Jhelum river near Sopore. This Nallah serves as a backbone for agricultural activity in the whole area. The Nallah supplies water to areas of Kreeri, Sangrama, Sopore and Sonawari. Various irrigation canals, which include the famous Shah Koll and the Khan Koll, supply water to fields. It is said that the water of Nallah Ningli had medicinal value in ancient times. But unfortunately the water of this Nallah has been polluted. At many places people have built latrines on its banks. The authorities should save this nallah from further deterioration.
