Saffron ‘smuggled’ outside Valley seized

Srinagar, May 8: Sleuths of Commercial Taxes Department Tuesday seized 24 kilograms of Saffron being smuggled outside the valley without clearance from the concerned department, officials said.
“Two persons were carrying Saffron without the clearance of the commercial taxes and have been held with assistance of Police on the charges of tax evasion under VAT Act,” Commercial Taxes Officer (CTO) Lowermunda, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat told Greater Kashmir.
He said the duo was traveling in a Scorpio vehicle bearing No. JK13A/3883.
