Srinagar: A day after police asked the civil administration not to involve them actively in distribution of gas, authorities Friday said that the role of the law enforcing agency would be to remain the part of task forces constituted at every district headquarter and to maintain the order during the crisis.
 Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone, SM Sahai in a communication to the Divisional Kashmir has written that the premises of police stations “cannot be crowded” with people and LPG cylinders.
 The oil companies had earlier resented the decision of involving police in the distribution of gas.
 “We have a full fledged CAPD department that looks after the distribution of food items and essential commodities, we fail to understand why the Government has involved police in the distribution of gas,” the dealers had said.
 A senior official of Divisional Administration told Greater Kashmir on condition of anonymity that the role of police would only be to maintain law and order during the crisis.
 Pertinent to mention here Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Monday said that cooking gas will be available at around 2100 CAPD outlets across the valley. He has added that task forces would be constituted in every district with District Superintendent of Police as its one of members for monitoring the gas and kerosene distribution in their areas of jurisdictions.
