Ramban/Surankote, Nov 10: An army soldier was crushed to death on Saturday by a speeding truck on Srinagar-Jammu highway here, police said.
Anil Kumar, a sepoy with 8 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), was hit by the truck while he was stationed on duty at the highway in Ramban area, a police official said.
He died on the spot, he said, adding that a case has been registered in the matter.
Meanwhile, eight persons, including five cops, who were part of squad of a senior police official, were injured in head-on collision between a police Gypsy and a Tavera vehicle, near Doondak on Rajouri-Poonch highway.
Four of the critically injured persons were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
Sources said, Deputy Inspector General of Police of Rajouri-Poonch Range, Danish Rana was on his way from Rajouri to Poonch, early in the morning.
Soon after receiving the information police and health teams from tehsil headquarters Surankote rushed to the spot and shifted all the eight injured including five cops, to local hospital.
After administering them first aid treatment, four victims civilian were shifted to GMC&H Jammu. The remaining injured persons are undergoing treatment in Surankote and Rajouri hospitals.
