Valley businesses suffer for LPG

Srinagar, Nov 10: The Valley business community has complained shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in the market.
Accusing the oil companies operating in the Kashmir valley of not supplying adequate number of commercial LPG cylinders, the stakeholders comprising hoteliers, restaurateurs and industrialists, said they were incurring heavy losses.
“It is quite disgusting that while we are ready to pay whatever price has been fixed on commercial cylinders by the government, we don’t find these cylinders in the market,” said Dr Zain ul Abideen, an industrialist.
He said if the oil companies cite pendency of the verification as an excuse for not providing the gas to the domestic consumers, “there should be no such excuse for shortage of commercial cylinders in the market.”
“We are facing production losses for want of LPG. Had it been the case in some place outside the state, the companies would pay the compensation for the losses. But here they are least bothered,” he said.
“Oil companies operating here are making false claims about the supply of commercial LPG cylinders. On the ground, the situation is terrible. We are not able to find the LPG,” said Showkat Chowdhary, President, Kashmir Hotels and Restaurants Association (KHARA).
Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya, Chairman JK Hoteliers’ Club told Greater Kashmir that the hoteliers were facing lot of convenience due to shortage of commercial gas cylinders in the market.
“Our hotel kitchens are running out of gas. We cannot prepare meals for the guests staying in the hotels,” Chaya said, adding that not only the hoteliers, the common people too have been badly hit by the LPG crisis.
“The gas dealers here don’t have enough manpower to cater to the heavy demand for gas. So the common people including the traders and hoteliers are facing problems,” Chaya said, adding that the “companies should enhance their manpower without any further wastage of time.”
He said the hoteliers and businessmen have to leave all their pressing engagements to wait outside the gas agencies for getting the refill of commercial LPG cylinder.
Chaya said: “The gas dealers have put a number of riders even for issuing commercial gas cylinders.”
