Govt begins preparation of budget estimates 2013-14

AKSHAY AZAD

Jammu, Nov 11: With four months left to end this financial year, the state government has started preparation of budget estimates 2013-14.
“The process for preparation of budget estimates 2013-14 has begun and from November 19 discussions will start on the estimates to be sent by the heads of various government departments to the Finance Ministry”, sources in the government said.
They informed Greater Kashmir that in mid-September the Finance Department had issued a notification asking all the heads of the departments to furnish their budget estimates 2013-2014 and revised estimates 2012-13 till November 9.
“So far few departments have sent their estimates to the Finance Department”, sources said, adding that the remaining departments were expected to submit the estimates at the discussion meetings scheduled to be held soon.
Sources revealed that till November 18, the finance department would discuss the budget estimates and revised estimates sent by departments and on November 19, discussions and deliberations would begin.
“The discussions on the budget estimates 2013-14 and revised estimates 2012-13 will start from November 19 and after deliberations on the revised estimates, additional funds will be given to the departments, wherever required,” sources said.
They said that the discussions would be wrapped up by the end of December to be followed by finalization of the annual budget proposals.
“The deliberations on estimates will be followed by the data compilation by Finance Department for future studies and drafting of the final budget proposals,” sources said.
An official in Finance department said that the finalization of the draft of budget proposals would be started in January, which would take around one month time.
