Oil companies start online booking for LPG home delivery

MUKEET AKMALI

Srinagar, Nov 11:  In what may give some relief to the LPG consumers, the oil companies operating here have started online booking for home delivery.
The move is likely to provide respite to the consumers who have completed their documents, as instead of waiting in long queues to get the LPG, they can now book online for home delivery.
“Only pre-requisite for availing the online service is that the consumer’s LPG connection should be updated/active,” an HPCL official said.
“We are receiving number of home delivery orders through internet. Earlier people never used to book home delivery via internet. But now due to heavy rush for LPG, many consumers prefer to book online for home delivery on HPCL portal,” said Syed Anees, proprietor, Jay Kay Gas Agency.
Pertinently, since the central government announced new LPG policy has come into effect the consumers in the Valley are facing huge problems on account of shortage of gas and the hectic process they have to follow to get their gas documents verified.
The new policy capped the number of subsidized LPG cylinders to six annually. The consumers, who require gas refills beyond six cylinders, would have to purchase the commodity at non-subsidized rate fixed by the oil companies.
The policy made it mandatory for oil companies to update the database of their clientele so that consumers having more than one connections are identified and their extra connections blocked.
In Kashmir people are finding it difficult to get their LPG documents verified, reconstructed, vetted, etc. due to little number of dealers in the Valley.
However, the officials of oil companies said that they were working hard so that the consumers are provided with best possible services.
“We are working very hard and in fact even on  Sundays we keep our offices open for people and  we are trying our level best to update all the consumer connections as soon as possible,”  Haroon Ahmad, Senior Sales Manager, HPCL, said.
“People should cooperate with us. we will get the consumer connection updated within next few months then it will be hassle free to get refills for consumers,” he said, adding that the HPCL is facing more pressure as compared to other oil companies as “we have major chunk of consumer base.”
