Tipper did not bear proper number plate on rear: Police

Srinagar, Nov 11: A tipper driving allegedly on the wrong side at Hyderpora outside former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s residence on November 8 did not bear a proper number plate on the rear, police said. The heavy vehicle had rammed into a car crushing it to wreckage while eyebrows are being raised over “poor security arrangements” outside the private residence of Azad, a Union Cabinet minister.
 A senior police official said the tipper which has been seized by the Sadder Police Station did not bear any proper number plate adding that the same was difficult to be ascertained.
 “Had the tipper managed to flee from the spot nobody would have been able to record its number because the same was poorly visible,” the official said.
  Transport Department and the Traffic Police have miserably failed to tame the tippers without number plates and their daytime movement in areas like Dr Ali Jan Road and the Airport Road.
 Moreover the Traffic Police has been supporting the daytime movement of tippers thro ugh residential areas in the City like the Canal Road. The Traffic police has a self-satisfying excuse. It says the tippers could ply through  colony interiors during daytime. Greater Kashmir is in possession of evidence in this regard and the same will be published soon.
 Meanwhile the Srinagarites have appealed Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon and the Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad to look into the matter on priority basis.
