Civil secretariat to go high-tech
Wi-fi connectivity to enable easy internet access
AKSHAY AZAD
Jammu, Nov 12: Civil Secretariat in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir is going high-tech with the wi-fi enabled internet connectivity being introduced next month.
“The officers can now surf internet and check mails anywhere in the complex. The entire complex will have wi-fi connectivity and the project is at the last phase of execution," a senior officer in the Information Technology Department told Greater Kashmir.
Presently the civil secretariat has obsolete internet connectivity, though some of the departments have installed their own wi-fi equipment with limited range and connections.
Sources said the project being implemented by the Information Technology Department and National Informatics Center was at the testing phase and is likely to be inaugurated by first week of December.
“We will provide code to all the departmental heads in the civil secretariat to enable them to use the services,” a senior official, wishing anonymity, said.
“The connectivity will be provided by NIT Delhi and bandwidth by BSNL,” the official said, adding that as such there will be two service providers at the same time to enable the internet connectivity in the civil secretariat.
