Farmers told to go for cash crops, adopt new technology

Bandipora, Nov 12: Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Monday urged the farmers to adopt new technology for cultivating cash crops and utilizing available land to its optimum capacity to get self sufficiency in agriculture production.
Inaugurating a “Farm Machinery Mela” at Sumbal, the speaker said that government is committed to provide every support to the farming community for their economic uplift.
He impressed upon the farmers to put every effort to increase productivity and progress in agriculture sector is important to the overall economic development of state.
He advised the farmers to take benefits of “Kissan Prosperity Schemes” and coordinate with Agriculture Department to increase agriculture production.
He said technology based mechanized farming has revolutionized the agriculture sector across the globe.He advised youth to come forward and adopt technology based agriculture which will ensure them livelihood & employment opportunity to others too.
Director Agriculture Kashmir Dr. Farooq A. Lone said that department is committed to uplift of farming community and the need of hour is to develop agriculture sector on modern scientific lines and thereby increase their production in agriculture and allied sectors.
Farmers of Sub Division Sumbal purchased various Agriculture machinery including 15 tractors, 40 power tillers, 110 irrigation pump sets and 20 Mechanized Carts, for which Department of Agriculture will provide Rs 45.75 lakh as subsidy.
