NC-CONG TO CONTEST LC POLLS JOINTLY
Candidates Yet To Be Finalized
ARVIND SHARMA
Jammu, Nov 12: Congress and National Conference Monday decided to contest the elections for four seats of Legislative Council jointly.
Talking to media persons after a meeting of Coalition Coordination Committee here, its chairman Prof Saifudin Soz announced that both the coalition partners will contest two seats, one each from Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
When asked about the probable candidates, Soz said the names have not been finalized yet.
“We have constituted a committee headed by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar. The committee will have six members each from Congress and National Conference,” he said adding that the committee will formulate strategy for ensuring victory of the coalition candidates.
When asked about the resentment among the Chenab region lawmakers who stayed away from the legislature party meeting yesterday, Soz said, “They had personal assignments and conveyed their message in this regard seeking prior permission.”
Replying to queries regarding Bashir Ahmed Magray’s purported resignation from the House Committee probing allegations against Taj Mohiuddin, Soz said, “It is an issue within the Council and the party has nothing to do with it.”
