PDP demands free electricity for Chenab Valley

Doda, Nov 12: Activists of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of former Minister Peer Muhammad Hussain today held massive demonstration at Doda in support of the demand of the party to give priorities to the local in the various developmental activities including in the under construction hydro electric projects in the Chenab Valley region. Party activists from Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts participated in the demonstration.
PDP reiterated its demanded that besides giving employment to the locals, free electricity should also be given to the people of erstwhile Doda district because they have first right on the water flowing from their area. Party regretted that residents of Chenab Valley-which provides electricity to many parts of the country, are not getting electricity.
Addressing the gathering Hussain regretted that local residents are neither getting power nor other basic amenities. The former Minister said that it was result of the discriminatory water agreement signed by the successive National Conference regimes that locals are not getting benefit of the mega hydro electric projects located in this belt. He said that locals have first right on the water flowing through this belt.
